Boost mobile targets a decidedly younger cell phone user. The company hawks a lot of downloadable content through online stores easily reachable from the phone.

The good thing about using a prepaid cell phone from this company, like many others, is that you have no commitment and no contract. The no contract clause is a very big selling point, especially considering most young kids have no credit.
Boost Mobile boasts a pay-as-you-go plan in which each minute costs 20 cents 7 am to 9 pm Monday through Friday, and 10 cents on nights and weekends. Kids love to talk in the evenings and they burn minutes up during those times.
10 cents isn’t too high of a rate–and the phones are prepaid, which may make the caller more careful with his or her cell phone minutes.
Mobile to mobile minutes are also a fixed rate of 10 cents. One of the biggest selling points of these prepaid cell phones is the unlimited walkie talkie. You know what this is.
It can be annoying to hear someone talk to someone using this feature and you keep waiting for him or her to say, “Roger that” or “over.” But when you realize it costs you nothing per minute to use, you change your mind about how annoying it is very quickly.
Obviously, there are different plans and prices available from this provider. All of them include the walkie-talkie. Typically, the plans run at $30, $50, and $60, but vary by market.
What each plan gets you:
$30 = Monthly usage plus 10 cents per minute.
$50 = 400 minutes plus 10 cents for overage minutes.
$60 = 600 anytime minutes plus unlimited nights and weekends starting at 7 pm.
Pick your poison. It really boils down to how much you talk on your cell phone.
Remember, you can cancel this plan at any time. But also remember that you also have to purchase a phone that works with the network.
The breakdown. (This is where I summarize the prepaid cell phone service up in a few bullet points)
- Aimed at younger demographic with a focus on content that can be downloaded.
- Free walkie talkie feature.
- Good way to know pretty much exactly what you are going to spend this month on your cell phone bill.
- Cell phones on the Boost mobile network can be pricey, but you may be able to get creative with ebay or finding a special offer.
- Free nights and weekends after 7 pm for some plans.
- Boost Mobile can now be found at retailers like Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, and Amazon. Find Boost Mobile phone deals.
- The one dollar per day Chat Plan comes with unlimited mobile-to-mobile talking with others who are on the Boost, Sprint, and Nextel networks. This works out to a lot of people. If you have friends and family on this network, a lot of your calls will be free. This plan also includes unlimited text messaging and unlimited nights (9pm to 7am) and weekends (9pm Friday to 7am Monday).
If you are someone who uses their phone a lot and want to go to a prepaid phone, then you want a more comprehensive plan–especially of you are a fan of texting and talk a lot on your phone on the weekends and evenings. On prepaid service, the minutes can rack up–even if they are only $.10 per–so you want to be careful with those minutes during the peak hours of the day. Boost Mobile has a large network–close to 40 million subscribers.
Boost Mobile phone packages start under $30 and include a Motorola phone, $5 of service credit, simple instructions for getting started, and no hidden activation fees. There are quite a few Motorola handsets that you can use with this service.

Correction its not a new company. The plan is new
I was with AT&T for several years before the customer service and extra fees just killed me – I decided to shop around. I took my mom and brother’s advice and gave Boost a try – and I’m so happy I did.
The service has been great so far. I love not having to worry about a contract and their $50 unlimited plan is a real money saver over my $110+ previous bills – no worry about overage fees from texting anymore.
The phone selection is much better than I expected and still pretty affordable. The Spring powered calling network is giving me pretty dependable coverage with the ocassional dead zone. The internet can be a little slow depending on the area and the downloads are a bit pricy, but nothing I haven’t seen before.
But there is an option being offered by Boost’s sister company, Virgin Mobile via Sprint, that has real potential to help a lot of people and should be getting more coverage.
Their “Assurance Wireless” program is being in offered in five states and exclusively to low income, qualifying families and its an amazing deal. Qualifers can get both a phone and 200 minutes, with no fees or contract, for free with the potential to expand their program at. 10 a minute. While the program is new, I can only hope it will expand to more states and people who could also use a plan like this.
I might not be low-income, but the savings would totally help me. While free is a bit much to ask of already loyal customers, maybe Sprint and its parents companies could offer something like this for $10 for everyone – new and old customers alike. Times are tough and having a cell phone is a must so click here for Sprint president’s email address: http://assurancewireless.webs.com and let him know that everyone could use these savings.
