Choosing a Prepaid Cell Phone Provider

In recent years prepaid cell phones have seen a sharp rise in popularity due to the ever-improving deals companies offer as a means to compete in a crowded cellular service marketplace. Owing to the fact that many people don’t want the commitment that comes with a contract, often individuals choose a pay as you go cell phone plan instead. While pay as you go was once seen as a viable option only for those with bad credit, it has now become a popular choice thanks to the great rates now available.

The most convenient feature of pay as you go services is that you aren’t bound to any contracts. Contracts require you to pay the same amount every month regardless of your usage (unless you go over your usage, in which case you are charged a lot!) and if you decide you no longer want to keep the contract you have to pay high disconnection fees to your provider.

So if a better deal comes along you have no choice but to either keep paying the higher prices of your contract until it expires many months in the future, or pay the high cancellation fees which would essentially counter any benefit of a better deal elsewhere.

As well as being able to change to a different deal at any time without penalty, pay as you go also allows you to buy bulk quantities of minutes at special rates if you so wish. Thus you aren’t constrained to a fixed rate per minute for calls, or charge per text, the cost is flexible allowing you to meet your changing needs. With this in mind it is also clear that you only pay for what you use. On a contract, you pay whether or not you use it.

Some providers provide additional features such as video calls while others don’t, therefore it’s important to do your research before settling for a provider to make sure they meet your needs. In some cases extra charges are also levied for texts or other features, so be wary of this too.

A few other things which might be worth checking are:

•    Quality of signal coverage in your area
•    Any activation fees
•    Roaming charges

With these things in mind you should be able to make a good decision about which provider to use.
