Locus Prepaid Cell Phones

Locus Telecommunications is one of the largest providers of prepaid cell phones, with over a thousand activations a day for their popular prepaid plans.

Plans:

There are a variety of Locus plans to match customer needs, starting with the Locus Mobile GSM plan. This includes calls at 15 cents per minute for the first five minutes of the day, after which they drop down to 9 cents per minute for the rest of the day.

The O2 Wireless GSM plan includes minutes at 14 cents a minute. The CallPlus Wireless GSM plan provides calls as 10 cents per minute, though this includes a 25 cent access fee every day. The POP CallPlus Wireless GSM plan includes minutes at 9 cents or 14 cents depending on how much airtime is purchased at the time.

There are also two CDMA plans offered on the Locus network. The first plan, Viva Prepaid Wireless, charges calls at 18 cents per minute on the weekdays and 9 cents per minute in the evenings and weekends. The Locus Platinum Plan is charged at 15 cents per minute.

Pros: All of the Locus prepaid plans include free long distance class within the 48 states. Calls to 50 pre-selected countries are also included making Locus a very well-priced option for those who regularly makes calls from their cell phone outside the US.

Locus phones make it easy to load minutes and check account balances, and you do not even need to purchase one of their own phones to use the service. If you have a phone already you can get it activated to work with their service (it must be GSM compatible, however).

Cons: There are many plans offered by Lotus, though what they do offer can become confusing especially since no straightforward plan comparison is offered. Some plans may be better value than others, but this is hard to work out when there is sometimes a different cost for the first five minutes of talk time than for the rest of the day.

Their per minute charges are still a little high, and the service does not include downloadables. Any directory assistance is extremely high. Your plan will also be deactivated if you do not load a balance for 30 days, and you will have to pay a fee to get it reactivated. This is a very limited time span compared to other cell phone services.
