Jump Mobile Prepaid Cell Phone Plans

Jump Mobile is a wireless service provider targeting the youth audience. However, its low rates are sure to attract a wide base of customers.  Jump offers prepaid cell phone service in 22 states.

Plans: The Jump Mobile plans are based on adding dollars to your account, rather than adding a certain number of minutes as with similar prepaid phone services. As you make calls then your money will be deducted as you go along, and the call costs vary according to where you are making your calls from.

Calls made within the local service area are charged at 10 cents a minute, and incoming calls are all free. However, once you leave this local area the call charges will go up to 69 cents a minute – and this is the same both for incoming and outgoing calls.

In the local calling area all text messages are free, whether incoming or outgoing. However, these are charged at 10 cents each (incoming and outgoing) when outside of this local calling area. International text messaging is also offered by Jump from the low price of 10 cents each. Picture messages are currently not available with Jump Mobile prepaid cell phones.

Pros: Jump Mobile users will benefit from the fact that, in their local area, they can receive calls for free and send or receive text messages for free. When making calls in the local area, the outgoing charge is also extremely low and easy to keep track of by the fact it is simply deducted from a dollar balance. It is very clear whether you are making local or roaming calls, which means it is even less likely that you will overspend.

Cons: Once you are outside of your local area then the calls are much more expensive. This will be a downside to anyone who needs to travel often. There is also only a small selection of phones available on the Jump Mobile network. When looking for cell phones on their website, you will find extremely few available. However, they are in different price categories meaning that all budgets should be satisfied.

When purchasing airtime dollars there is also a fast expiration date, depending upon the amount you buy. When you purchase 10 dollars they will expire extremely quickly – after only 7 days – which is quicker than many other prepaid services. However, 20 dollars will expire after 15 days, 30 dollars after 30 days and 50 dollars after 90 days.
