Prepaid Cell Phones Continue to Grow in Popularity and Variety.
Many people are doing everything they can to cut costs. So why do so many people still overpay for their cell phone service? It’s sort of ridiculous, but it’s not these people’s faults. To be honest, cell phone companies with standard contract models get a lot more exposure in the media than do smaller prepaid companies, which means that many people simply don’t know how they can save with prepaid wireless plans.
Some of the benefits of prepaid cell phones are the following:
1) You don’t have to sign a contract to use your phone, so there is no commitment other than what you pay for minutes–you don’t want to waste those.
2) Only pay for the minutes you use. Pay as you go is not just a clever phrase–it’s how it works.
3) You have more control over your cell phone bill. Since you choose how many minutes you pay for and then use, you have more power to save money. You aren’t locked into a set amount of monthly minutes.
4) Flexibility. In certain months, you may not use your cell phone that much. Maybe you go on vacation during a certain time of year and don’t use your phone too much. If this is the case, then you wouldn’t want to be paying for 700 minutes or even 450 minutes, which you would be locked into in a wireless contract.
5) You have prepaid options. As prepaid cell phones catch on, there are more and more options and deals out there.
Tracfone is one of the most popular networks. Boost Mobile later this month will release an unlimited nationwide plan with unlimited text and voicemail for $50. T-Mobile prepaid has some good, competitive plans available as well. In fact, all of the major carriers have prepaid options available.
In efforts to compete, wireless companies have to offer increasingly competitive plans. This means that every company will need to offer prepaid or pay as you go plans to people in order to entice customers who want these types of services to join their networks.
As consumers and cell users gain more knowledge of the unjust termination and activation fees the large wireless phone companies charge once they get you to sign a contract, more and more people opt for more control over their phones. Of course, you still need to be careful that you choose the right prepaid plan that works for you and your unique situation. You could end up paying more than you need to if you’re not careful and don’t fully know what you are getting with you plan.
