Upping the Ante: Prepaid finally getting premium cell phones

i9_front_closed_blueYes, prepaid cell phones are finally getting some of the high end phones, and it’s about time. Previously, if you wanted prepaid wireless you had to settle for a mediocre, ugly or rather plain phone. Now many carriers are recognizing that credit scores aren’t very high right now, and prepaid is much more of an important offering than before, and have responded by upping the quality of their handset offerings.

Boost Mobile seems to be at the forefront of this revolution. They’re about to unveil the Motorola Stature i9, a premium thin phone with a large screen and plenty of features, like a touchscreen with haptic feedback, a 3.1 megapixel camera and the ability to play YouTube videos with high quality. It might be one of the best handsets available on any prepaid platform currently.

Virgin Mobile and AT&T are also taking notice, with their slate of soon-to-be-released fancier prepaid phones in the wind. It’s a good time to go prepaid. People’s interests are piqued, due to economic straits, and quality phone offerings might reel in those who might otherwise give up on getting a traditional “contract” phone.
