It’s a fact: prepaid cell phones can save some people a lot of money over contract services. Many people in other countries already know this. Here are some interesting numbers of the amount of prepaid users in other countries:
29 million prepaid users in the US (that’s surprisingly big, and growing with the recession hitting)
1/3 of the market in France is prepaid; about 15 million users
66% of cells in the UK are prepaid; that’s around 35+ million users
90% of cell phones in Italy are prepaid; the largest percentage of any country
So other countries don’t look down on prepaid as many in the US tend to; it’s an honest, cost-saving way of having the convenience of a mobile phone without the high monthly bill associated with many plans.
Boost Mobile recently introduced an “unlimited plan” for $50 a month; for that fee you get unlimited nationwide talk and text, web access and walkie-talkie service. This could also be an alternative to the “minute” based plans for those that talk a lot.
