One thing I wondered when Cricket Wireless started expanding and introducing mobile broadband was whether they’d move into high-end prepaid cell phones. It makes sense from a geek perspective, but from a low-cost carrier that doesn’t subsidize phones, it can go either way. Apparently they’re giving it a shot with the Motorola QA4, to be released to eager Cricket-teers soon.
It’s a touchscreen with a slide out standard 12-digit keyboard. For features it sports a 200×400 LC touch screen, Bluetooth, 256 MB memory expandable to 16GB, a 2 megapixel camera, a full HTML browser, and video streaming capabilities. Sounds pretty juicy for a prepaid/low cost postpaid option.
It’s looking like a May release with Cricket, though a price is not yet set. Expect perhaps $200 or so retail, which is in-line with other carriers high-end options.
