New Prepaid Cell Phone Rumor: T-Mobile to release Nokia 1661

nokia1661Late last week, we learned that T-Mobile will release the slick Nokia 1661 later this month to work on its prepaid cell phone plans. There wasn’t much by the way of details, though so we assumed (that’s what we get for assuming) it would be a low-end phone for postpaid. However, that may not be true.

Website Mobile Burn has a rumor about T-Mobile’s 2009 plans in which they mention that the 1661 “will apparently be available for the prepaid side of the market on April 29.” This is very good news indeed for the prepaid market.

There’s still no official pricing details, though that should come very soon. It’s not a super fancy phone, but its a nice design, and more choices for prepaid is always a good thing. It’s a basic candybar style phone with an FM radio built in and a nice 128×160 display. It does have a bright “torch” light built in which apparently lets you cut through the darkness whenever needed.

As we’ve said before, more choices are good.
