Virgin Mobile now offers “layoff” protection

virgin mobile prepaid Just after Virgin Mobile announced a cheaper unlimited calling plan, they also made it easier on individuals who get laid off from their jobs, an all-too frequent occurance these days. Even though it’s a prepaid service and the inability to pay normally means not having service (thus the term prepaid), Virgin will pick up up to three months’ tab for any individual laid off. There are conditions to the offer, and it does require specific enrollment.

Specifically, customers need be with Virgin for two consecutive months, and must be eligible for state unemployment benefits. That’s sad for the unemployed who don’t qualify for benefits, but it’s certainly better than nothing (which is what other prepaid carriers offer in this regard). The offer will last for the next year, and current customers have until June 30 to enroll. New customers can sign up when they pick a new plan.

Very considerate offer, especially from a prepaid cell phone carrier.
