Slow Talker: Boost Mobile and the Texting Blues

boost mobile prepaidRecently, we’ve seen a jump in complaints regarding long delays in text messaging for Boost Mobile’s unlimited plan, and it isn’t a small or isolated issue apparently. Even the AP has ran and picked up the story. Not the best press Boost Mobile could come up with for their prepaid cell phones.

Reportedly some text messages are taking three to four hours to deliver. That’s not ok, especially for a system as hyped as Boost has been. Some have thought maybe Nextel’s iDEN network, which is geared more for voice/walkie-talkie stuff than texting, is the culprit. We’re not sure of that, though this has been a minor issue for Nextel customers in the past.

Spokesman John Votava says they’re just swamped by the popularity of the service. His quote:

The popularity of Boost Mobile caught us off guard. It overwhelmed our system. The company has been working day and night to fix the problems, and we aim to have the system much improved by next week.

Hopefully we see this being addressed very soon, as it could hurt sales of the service if it persists for too much; bad word of mouth is a very hard thing to recover from.  Read more about prepaid cell phones.
