Straight Talk Prepaid Launches Nationwide

When Straight Talk first came across my radar a few years ago, the company had pretty much just formed and had only been selling phones and prepaid service for a few months or so. Back in those days, there weren’t too many great phones to choose from, just the usual flip phone suspects and the occasional RAZR. But now fast forward a few years and Straight Talk now has four Android phones available for sale on its website. This is a great thing because you can now use the powerful Straight Talk unlimited plan paired with the functionality of Android smartphones. The best phone available right now is the LG Optimus Black, which has a very fast processor, a great camera that captures HD video in addition to images (5 megapixel), and a sleek look. The defining characteristic of LG Optimus Black is the gorgeous and super bright touchscreen. This phone is the top dog from Straight Talk.  Check for availability at StraightTalk.com

tracfone-straight-talkThe Straight Talk prepaid phone plan was designed by TracFone, the largest prepaid wireless provider in the United States, to be sold online and at Wal-Mart locations.  Originally, the plans were only released in a limited number of stores. Now, after great customer response, the plans will go nationwide and will be available across the country.

There are two Straight Talk plans available.

The $30 plan includes 1,000 minutes of talk time, 1,000 text messages, and 30 MB of mobile web access.  The $45 plan gives users unlimited talk time and text messages and unlimited web access.  Both plans, which run on Verizon’s strong network, provide nationwide coverage and 411 service.

Clearly, both of these plans are attractive.  If you use a lot of talk time, the unlimited plan is for you.  If you talk a little less–under 1,000 minutes a month–then the cheaper plan may be for you.  Keep in mind that both of these plans are prepaid, which means you sign no contract and have no commitment whatsoever.  Prepaid also saves people money every month in general.

The average adult spends $80 a month for 1,000 minutes, according to a statement released by Wal-Mart, so there is the opportunity for great savings with Straight Talk.  The unlimited plan costs $45 for unlimited talk, text, and web with and Android phone, so there is considerable room to save some money.  Most people pay about $80 or more per month for their Verizon or AT&T iPhone (on a contract plan).

If you’re not interested in the LG Optimus Black, another phone to have a look at is the recently released Samsung Galaxy Proclaim.  This phone caused a bit of a stir because it’s the first Straight Talk android phone to run on the Verizon network.  This is significant not only because Verizon has a fast 3G network, but because this opens up many parts of the country where people can now get coverage on the Straight Talk Android unlimited plan.  All the other androids run on the Sprint towers.  See the Samsung Galaxy Proclaim.
