If you’ve been paying attention to news in the prepaid phone plan world, then you may have heard that the Wal-Mart, the largest retailer in the country, now will be selling its own version of prepaid phones.
It’s a great headline and it’s true that since the company is backing the phone plans that they will be successful, but the plans aren’t exactly proprietary to Wal-Mart.
The prepaid plans at issue are under the brand Straight Talk, which is owned by TracFone. Truly, the two plans offered under the Straight Talk banner are very good plans and may be better options for many cell phone users out there.
The plans, like most pay as you go services, require no signed contract, no termination fees, and no real commitment other than the money customers have to pay for the actual phone handset and the monthly bill.
One is for 1,000 minutes and 1,000 text messages, with 30 MB of data for web surfing from the phone. This plan costs $30.
The second plan, which is getting really good reviews, is the Unlimited plan. Subscribers receive unlimited talk time texting and–in a recent addition to the plan–unlimited web browsing. This plan goes for $45 per month.
Both plans also come with free information (411) calls and run on a Mobile Virtual Network provided by Verizon.
People looking for prepaid deals might want to look at these plans first, which can be purchased online at straight talk’s website or in Wal-Mart locations across the country.
