Straight Talk $30 Plan vs. MetroPCS $30 Unlimited Plan

samsung-messager-sch-r450-metropcsMetroPCS has a $30 Unlimited (and rather basic) plan and so does Straight Talk wireless, the brand started by TracFone which can be bought online and at Wal-Mart locations.

So how do these two plans stack up against one another?

The Straight Talk “All You Need” $30 plan comes with 1,000 any time/anywhere minutes and 1,000 text messages, and in addition, it comes with 30 MB of data for web browsing.  This prepaid package runs on the Verizon network.  Calls to 411 are free, which is a very interesting and useful addition to the plan.

MetroPCS’ $30 Unlimited plan comes with unlimited talk time (domestic long distance included) and unlimited text messages.  Calls need to be made from within the network coverage, which can be an issue with MetroPCS depending on where you are in the country.  The most interesting thing about this prepaid, month to month plan, is that international text is included in the plan.  This could be useful for a pretty small part of the population.

MetroPCS’ plan will be most useful for people who depend on their phone primarily for local use.  Even though, long distance is available, you have to make sure you are calling a phone with a provider that is covered.  Learn more about this plan at MetroPCS.com

Overall, Straight Talk edge’s out MetroPCS in this plan comparison.  It runs on Verizon’s strong network and gives its users 30 MB of web access.  1,000 minutes of talk time and 1,000 text messages should suffice for most people.  If it isn’t enough, Straight Talk’s Unlimited plan is available for $45 per month, which is a very good deal for unlimited voice, text, web browsing, and 411.

I’ve used both these services and there really is no comparison. Straight Talk outperforms Metro by far. With Metro you’ll soon find that the roaming charges pile up quickly. Their coverage is VERY limited, to put it kindly.
And, like you mentioned, ST has nationwide coverage on the Verizon network – which according to JD Power & Associates is still the best.
    Straight Talk every time!
