Can you Really Save Money with Prepaid Phones?
The truth is that you really can. Prepaid Wireless providers like Net10 and TracFone have very low rates if you are a low to moderate phone user.
Even people who use more than moderate minutes may be able to save money with prepaid phones. It just depends on your phone usage habits. There are certain types of phone users who would do well with prepaid.
People who use their phones a lot for business or just talk a lot with friends or use their phones for text and staying touch with friends throughout the day will do better with a contract plan.
Usually.
Unlimited Prepaid Phone Plans
There are exceptions and there are also several new unlimited prepaid plans like the ones from Straight Talk and Boost Mobile. Straight Talk has two plans, one unlimited which costs $45 per month, and another that costs $30 per month. Boost Mobile’s Unlimited plan costs $50 per month.
A few companies you can save money with on prepaid phones are TracFone, Net10, and T-Mobile.
TracFone has some very good deals going on right now. On some phones you can get 3X the minutes with a program called Triple Minutes for Life. On a bunch of other phones, you can get 2X minutes. These come complete with the phones as a package deal. See some of the available phones at TracFone.com

Everyone wants to save money these days, especially on their cell phones. Prepaid cell phones are really helping people to control their budgets and reduce unnecessary operating expenses. From what I’ve been reading, an average contract customer can save anywhere from $300 to $900 per year by switching to a non-contract phone and plan. Personally, I’m a fan of NET10. They have a nice selection of phones and offer airtime in amounts to fit every budget and usage need. For the big user, they have the Unlimited plan for $50, This gives you totally unlimited talk, text, internet, and 411 calls. They also offer the flexibility to switch between their plans without charging extra.
I agree with you ritzl: everyone wants to save money these days, especially on their cell phone bills, which is one of the easiest ways to trim some monthly expenses back. This is probably why we’re seeing the rise of companies like net10 and straight talk.
Yea, prepaid definitely seems to help with monthly expenses. It also makes things more predictable as to how much you will spend because you know ahead of time. No more surprises at the end of the month. A few questions. First, is the coverage really through AT&T and Verizon? And, do you know anything about a new 3G touch screen that NET10 will supposedly introduce sometime in April? My contract is due to expire soon, and if that is the case, it may be worth the wait.
