It may seem like a little bit odd that Wal-Mart is going to be releasing a new line of prepaid phones under the name of Common Cents Mobile in many of its locations across the United States. This line of phones is going to compete with and dig into the profit margins of Straight Talk Wireless phones.
But then again, WalMart tends to have many competing products in the same product vein, so I guess it really does make sense. WalMart Straight Talk phones have become pretty popular and have been a successful prepaid phone option for many people looking to get a more basic cell phone plan rather than a multi-year contract plan.
Straight Talk phones, which are available in WalMart locations but also online at the official website, are geared toward people who use more talk time than those who may be interested in Common Cents Mobile. The Straight Talk Wireless Unlimited plan ($45 per month) gives subscribers unlimited talk, text, and web.
Common Cents Mobile is making a name for itself by rounding minutes used down. If you talk on your phone for one minute and 45 seconds, you will only be charged for one minute. This is interesting, but you have to wonder just how accurate it is. You also probably do not have as good of phone selection as you do with WalMart Straight Talk phones.
While both brands are offered at WalMart, they are very different. Straight Talk probably edges the other company out since the plans are supported by the Verizon network, there are better phone options, and you can get unlimited talk time.
The image above is the Samsung r451 phone, which is available on both WalMart Straight Talk plans. It is a solid phone offered at a low price. There are some other very attractive phones available. See them all as well as more plan details at StraightTalk.com
