Five Reasons to Consider Prepaid Cell Phones
Posted by admin in prepaid cell phones on November 5, 2008
Prepaid Cell Phones have become an attractive option in the wireless service market. Here are five reasons why you may want to consider this type of cell phone plan.
1) No Contracts! This is a big one for a lot of individuals who simply don’t feel comfortable signing (and re-signing) 2-year contracts with their cell phone service provider. The worst part about contracts are the termination fees you have to pay when their service is not up to par and you want out of it.
2) Be smarter with your minutes. Prepaid cell phones often have a function that lets you know how many minutes you have left or how close you are to going over your allotted minutes. For normal contract based cell phone plans, you generally have to go to the company website or call them in order to find out how close you are to “going over.” Of course, there are fees associated with this. This allows you to be “smarter” with your minutes and know how long you have to talk.
3) Control your kids minutes. Kids love to talk on their cell phones, and these days with so many other things they can use their phones for (like downloading video games and listening to music) it is incredibly easy for them to run up their cell phone bills very quickly. Prepaid and pay as you go options, like the ones offered by Verizon and Virgin Mobile prepaid, give you more control over how much you pay for phone use.
4) No Roaming Charges. This is a huge one for many people (and definitely for me as well). Roaming charges can be hugely expensive, but many prepaid cell phone plans don’t have extra roaming charges. This is one of the best ways to save money on your wireless bill, because those charges snowball very quickly and often without you knowing it.
5) Only Pay for the Minutes you Use. Sure, the previous four items on this list are all about saving money, but that’s why you’re here right? If a prepaid plan is right for you and your situation, then you will be able to cut out a lot of the expense of your bill. One of the benefits of prepaid over postpaid is there is more flexibility. Say you use your phone for your business. Maybe things really slow down in Summer but pick up in the Fall. You can easily adjust to the changes because you will only really have to pay for the minutes you use instead of having to pay for, say, 600 minutes a month January through December.

Finding Cheap Prepaid Cell Phones
Posted by admin in cheap prepaid cell phones, prepaid cell phones on October 14, 2008
Prepaid cell phones are a great choice for users who would rather not go through the hassle of setting up a contract as well as the risk of overspending on calls. There are many great prepaid plans becoming available on many wireless networks, attempting to offer all the benefits of postpaid. With so much choice, it can be hard to know whether postpaid or prepaid deals offer the best value for money, and especially difficult to compare these offers on different networks.
Most of the popular cell phone networks are offering both prepaid and post paid plans, so it is worth comparing the costs and bearing in mind the amount of free minutes that come with the plan. For example, the Virgin Mobile pay as you go plan includes roll-forward minutes, meaning that unused minutes from one month can be saved for the next. This is one of the advantages of a postpaid plan, but Virgin conveniently offers it in a prepaid version, and for 200 minutes a month, users can pay $20 on a prepaid plan. Their postpaid equivalent is $24.99 per month for the same amount of minutes. On the surface it may seem like no question as to what the better deal is, but there is more to consider.
There are quite a few factors to consider when finding the cheapest option available to you. First, you must compare the postpaid to the prepaid plans offered by one mobile service, and then you can compare them to other networks to see how good the deal is. When comparing, it will only be valid if you estimate roughly how much you will call and how much you will text. Many prepaid plans include daily access charges, so it is also important to work out how many days of the month you will be using the phone and having to pay these charges.
On the Virgin plans mentioned above, cost will be added to the prepaid plan in the form of text messaging, which comes a lot cheaper with their postpaid plan. So if you like to text a lot, it might be better value to go postpaid. However, their prepaid cell phone plan is unique in the fact that it does not charge daily access fees, which is useful to know when comparing it to networks such as Verizon, for example.
Services such as Verizon will add daily access charges to the cost of plans. So while it may seem cheaper to go with the prepaid cell phone option, postpaid will eliminate these charges, and the cost for users who like to use their phones on most days of the month. The prepaid plans offered by Verizon include less of the benefits of the Virgin Plans, and this is also something to look out for when choosing a plan.
In short, the main benefits of postpaid used to be: included monthly minutes, a set monthly price for those minutes and no daily access charges. If you are looking for the best deal, then look for prepaid plans that replicate these great postpaid benefits, such as the Virgin plans. You may find they can sometimes cost slightly more than their postpaid equivalents, but in many cases the convenience more than makes up for this fact.

Virgin Mobile originated in the United Kingdom but has recently introduced its services to the Unites States. You can use prepaid cell phones with Virgin’s network.
Plans: There are two types of plans provided by Virgin Mobile.
First, the pay by the minute pan which gives different minutes according to the value loaded onto the phone. $20 will get you 200 minutes where $30 gives 400 minutes and $50 gives you 1000 minutes. These minutes will be rolled over to the next month so long as new minutes are purchased within 30 days following the purchase of the last package. In total users are able to roll over up to a maximum of 5,000 minutes.
The monthly paid plans mimic traditional contract plans but are prepaid. Again there are different minutes for different costs: $24.99 gives you 200 anytime minutes and 500 night and weekend minutes (starting at 7pm); the $34.99 plan includes 300 anytime minutes as well as 1000 night and weekend minutes; the $49.99 plan includes 400 anytime minutes as well as unlimited nights and weekends, and the $59.99 plan includes 600 anytime minutes, unlimited nights and weekends, as well as unlimited mobile to mobile calls. You can also get completely unlimited calls at all times of day if you choose to purchase the $79.99 plan.
Pros: Virgin offers great choice by offering both pay as you go and monthly payment plans to rival any contract plans available. It also includes a toll free customer service number as well as customer service through email. Some of their phones include a large amount of airtime which basically covers the cost of the phone.
Cons: The website is not easy to navigate and can lead to the need to call customer service for advice.
